Algo que llevo usando algún tiempo y que a alguién le puede venir bien:
Encender PC's a distancia.

Hay que configurarlo en la BIOS del sistema y luego también en la propiedades de la tarjeta de red (Ethernet).
Despúes, basta usar un programita ( en mi caso, uno gratuito Solarwinds Free Wake-on-LAN) y conocer la dirección IP y la MAC del equipo, y dicho programa envía un "magic packet" que al recibirlo el equipo apagado, hace que éste se encienda.

En mi caso, realmente útil si lo combino con Windows 2000 Server y Remote Desktop Connection, que permite que 2 usuarios trabajen al mismo tiempo sobre el mismo equipo sin interrumpirse mutuamente.

I've been using this feature for some time and I find it pretty interesting.
The idea is to be able to switch ON PC's in a remotely way (the only requisite is to have communication with the equipment, as you can imagine).

You need to activate it at the BIOS of the machine and also you need to go the properties of the LAN (Ethernet) card and active "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby".
Later, you only need to know the MAC and IP addresses of the PC and with a program like Solarwinds Free Wake-on-LAN you send a "magic packet" to the system, switching it on.

Combined with Windows 2000 Server and Remote Desktop Connection, you don't need to be near a PC to work with it. You can be thousands of kilometers far apart and you are working on it like if you were there.

From 27th of February to 10th of March I've been at Stockholm (Sweden). A really nice city, very beautiful.
Lot of snow at this time of the year, and a bit cold (as you can see in the photos), but I liked it.

Pues sí­, hasta ahora no había puesto nada sobre algo que ya llevo haciendo un tiempo y que puede llegar a ser realmente apasionante, y que es el descenso de barrancos o cañones.

Y España es uno de los paraí­sos de este deporte que combina pateadas por zonas de montaña con acceso a lugares que sin las técnicas que se aplican, resultarían imposibles. De dichas técnicas destaca el rappel o bajada de desniveles ayudándose de cuerdas, anclajes, arneses y descensores u ochos (además de alguna cosa más que no me entretendré en mencionar).

Destacar que el aspecto más importante que hay que tener en cuenta si se practica este exigente deporte es el relativo a la seguridad, pues un fallo en determinadas condiciones puede significar un grave accidente. Pero para evitarlo, hay muchas medidas de precaución que se pueden tomar y que dependen de ti­, afortunadamente.

Si alguien quiere saber más de todo esto, que me pregunte o se informe en alguna de las mucha páginas de internet que hay , entre las que destaca la de http://www.barranquismo.net.

Este fin de semana hemos hecho los barrancos de Cueva Cabrito (sábado 12) y el Barranco de Cautiecho (domingo 13 de noviembre 05), con un rappel de 40 metros (WOW!!) en la sierra de Guara (Huesca), lugar de referencia a nivel mundial.

El fin de semana anterior hicimos el Barranco del Viandico, junto con la Cueva de los Moros del Molino de Asó (junto al Parque Nacional de Ordesa y Monte Perdido), y el domingo el Barranco del Forato de Manatuero junto con el descenso de la Garganta Superior del río Yesa.

A really incredible sport, where you are able to reach places and locations so difficult to access that you need to carry with you ropes, fixation elements, harnesses and descenders (named 'eights' because of their shape).

It's also a risky one, so you need to take a lot of security and precaution measures, because a mistake here and you can have very important injuries and sometimes, people practicing it, die. So take care if you are a practitioner.

Spain is one of the 'paradises' of this sport, and here you can find a lot of incredible places and locations.

For example, this weekend we descended two canyons, "Cueva Cabrito" and "Cautiecho", the last one with a 40 meters fall (first time I saw it, I gasped: "Coñó, esto es la leche!!". The two of them are located at "Sierra de Guara", a very special place with some of the "kings" of canyons.

Porque este tipo de libros intentan explicar el mundo de los negocios y de las empresas, y para conseguirlo terminan explicando la mayor parte de lo que nos rodea y que vivimos. Así que mucho de lo que se puede aprender ahí vale para aplicarlo en las decisiones que uno toma.
Por eso me gustan, porque son filosofía, pero filosofía aplicada a las personas, no a lo divino, de forma que son válidos para mejorar o entender nuestro modo de vida.

Ahora mismo estoy leyendo uno que se llama Funky Business (en inglés, escrito por Jonas Ridderstrale y Kjelle Nordström, profesores de la escuela de negocios de Estocolmo), y que hasta ahora me está gustando bastante. La idea del libro (escrito en el 2000) es la de quitarnos el miedo frente al entorno tan cambiante y complejo de los negocios actuales (complex & changing times... ;-))) ), y que en lugar de ver las circunstancias que vivimos como una amenaza, las veamos como todo un mundo de oportunidades.

Because these books try to explain the corporate and business world; thus, they finish explaining most of what we live and that surround us. So a great part of what is learnt there can be taken and applied on the personal decisions each of us make.
That’s why I like them, because they’re pure philosophy, but an applied one. Applied to people, not to ‘divine’ matters, so usually all the thoughts showed there are useful to understand or improve our way of life.

I’m reading now one named Funky Business (by Jonas Ridderstrale and Kjelle Nordström, from the Stockholm School of Economics), and I like it a lot. The main idea of the book (written on year 2000) is describing the new world of business, trying to take out of us the fear of a changing environment, so instead of viewing a world of menacing circumstances we take it as a world of opportunities.

podéis leer un artículo en el que el autor afirma que "El CO2 es incluso beneficioso". Otro loco, o paranoico o lo que sea. A saber. Pero igual que los que predicen grandes catástrofes por el cambio climático y todo eso. Manipulaciones siempre habrá, y lo difícil es darse cuenta de ellas cuando las estás viviendo.

También hace poco leí un artículo (y no de ningún chalado, había salido en la revista Nature), en el que se hablaba de que empieza a creerse que el aumento de CO2 en la atmósfera está muy ligado al aumento en la esperanza de vida de la población, pues los avances médicos no bastan para explicarlo.

Quién sabe. Que cada uno escuche y luego vaya sacando sus propias conclusiones.

Está en inglés (sorry for that), y lo escribe un tipo de 73 años, que se dedica al mundo del marketing, y que tiene ciertas teorías acerca de los mercados que se van probando ciertas y que se basan en que según él, la franja de edad que marca las tendencias generales de la sociedad (no de la moda) es la que ahora está en torno a los 50 años. Para cogerle el hilo hay que seguirlo un poco, pero me resulta muy interesante.

Hello again.

It's been a long time since the last post. I have been on holidays (one month, August) and after that, on a trip at Mexico City, so I hope I will continue including here all things that I consider are interesting (at least for me).

In that category enters one of the links on the right side of the blog: Ageless Marketing Blog. Written by a guy 73 years old, it's interesting because of the marketing theories that he tells there. They're all based on the idea that it is the scope of people around 50 years old the one that sets the pace of the social mind (not the fashion), and that because that scope is the one most populated. It's necessary to follow him during some posts to understand all, but I think it's intersting.

Sí, es cierto. Sólo como apunte. Y es que cada vez más gente va a la India a operarse. Los costes son bajos y la capacitación técnica bastante alta, por lo que por ejemplo, una operación de corazón puede costar 40.000 dólares en EE.UU. y sólo 4.000 en la India.

Entre India y China nos van a poner bien las pilas como no nos apliquemos bien.

Tras un tiempo en el que he estado realmente tranquilo en el trabajo (sin apenas dar cursos y sin viajar), asentando conocimientos de DNS y de DHCP, parece que me vuelve a tocar meterme en la refriega de tener que estudiar algo nuevo.

Ahora es el tema de DSL, del que ADSL es una de las posibilidades. Al menos son cosas de las que ha oído hablar bastante gente, aunque como tema de conversación de sábado noche no sé si va a calar mucho...

Interesante artículo que creo que describe bastante bien la evolución de la enseñanza en España (y no lo veáis como un tema político, aunque siempre acaban siéndolo) sino como algo que afecta a nuestro futuro, y aún más al de los que tenéis hijos (entre los cuales de momento no me incluyo).
